In 2003, the “610 Office” in Hongshan District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province created a forced brainwashing center in Jiufeng Town. For each Falun Gong practitioner, the center would be given 6,000 yuan as a “brainwashing fund.” On the evening of April 10, 2003, the Huashan Town Police Station in Hongshan District and the “610 Office” arrested Ms. Li Jiulan, a local Falun Gong practitioner. Her child held onto her legs, crying and screaming. The villagers arrived at the scene when they heard the commotion. They were outraged and condemned the police. Several villagers grabbed Ms. Li from the hands of the police, and struggled with them for 30 minutes.
